Dennis Richmond, Jr.

 



Dennis Richmond, Jr., M.S.Ed., is a New York State certified educator, historian, journalist, and community leader. A graduate of Claflin University and Sarah Lawrence College, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in African and African-American Studies and a Master of Science in Education. With half a decade of experience in education, Richmond has taught across multiple grade levels, designing rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies. He currently serves as a middle school educator, where he is known for implementing high-impact literacy initiatives, including intensive reading programs and structured writing expectations that challenge scholars to exceed grade-level standards. His work emphasizes both academic excellence and cultural relevance, ensuring that students see themselves reflected in the curriculum while developing critical reading and writing skills. In addition to his work in the classroom, Richmond is an accomplished journalist whose writing has appeared in outlets such as New York Post, Yonkers Voice, and other regional publications. His reporting centers on education, community issues, and the lived experiences of Black, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ communities, combining historical insight with contemporary analysis. Known for his compelling storytelling and sharp editorial voice, he continues to contribute impactful journalism under tight deadlines while maintaining a strong commitment to accuracy and integrity. Richmond is also the founder and director of the New York–New Jersey HBCU Initiative, a volunteer initiative dedicated to expanding college access for students across the region. Through workshops, mentorship, and direct support, he has helped guide countless young people toward higher education opportunities, particularly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His commitment to community extends beyond education and journalism. As a former program manager at The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center, Richmond developed and led programs supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly older adults, while also working to improve cultural competency among service providers. A passionate historian, Richmond is deeply engaged in genealogical research, tracing his family lineage back centuries and bringing local Black history to life through public programming, writing, and exhibitions. His work bridges the past and present, ensuring that untold stories are preserved, honored, and shared with future generations. Dennis Richmond, Jr. continues to serve as a powerful voice in education, media, and community advocacy—dedicated to uplifting scholars, preserving history, and telling stories that matter.
